Three strategies to address the top three crime problems.
The District Attorney takes a three-pronged approach to reducing crime in Cambria County:
- Prevent crime from happening in the first place using EDUCATION.
- Stop crime through strict ENFORCEMENT.
- Prevent future crome through Drug & Alcohol REHABILITATION.
EDUCATION
Knowledge is Power and informed citizens are powerful deterrents of crime. For that reason, the District Attorney´s Office provides both school and community outreach programs and a wealth of online resources accessible through this website. Details on all these programs can be found in the Education/Resources section. Visit those pages to learn more about online resources and about outreach programs that include:
-
DARE, 6th Grade Drug Awareness, 9th Grade Alcohol Awareness Program, Youth Fair, K-9 Unit School
Locker Searches, Identity Theft Seminars, Drug Awareness for Teachers/Parents, and Town Meetings.
ENFORCEMENT
Since drugs and the internet have become major sources of crime in Cambria County it is no surprise that crime within the county involves criminal activity that can occur far outside the borders of the county. For that reason, the Cambria County District Attorney has formed vital alliances with a team of Federal, State and Local agencies. They include:
- Cambria County Drug Task Force -
A team of county detectives, local police and the FBI that is funded by the Office of the State Attorney General - Cambria County DUI Task Force -
A coordinated enforcement effort of local police and the District Attorney´s Office that is funded by PennDOT - Major Case Team -
The Major Case Team was created to provide support to local police when a major crime like murder occurs in their jurisdiction. It brings together local police, county detectives and the Pennsylvania State Police to deal with significant crimes.
The District Attorney´s Office is also a member of:
- The Pennsylvania State Police Area III Computer Crimes Task Force
- The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force
REHABILITATION
For drug and alcohol offenders rehabilitation is an option that has the potential to prevent future crimes by eliminating the root cause of the problem. There are two general types of rehabilitation: rehabilitation behind bars and rehabilitation through a public or private treatment program. The decision to pursue one or the other option lies with the presiding judge.
